!His obituary in an Oregon newspaper read: "Charles Thomas 'Sam' Houser, 76, of Rogue River died Sunday, Feb. 18, 1996, at his home. Private cremation services have been held at Slawson's Chapel of the Valley Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Lovejoy Hospice, P.O. Box 356, Grants Pass, OR 97526. He was born Aug. 26, 1919, in Highspire, Pa. After high school he apprenticed as a machinist and made and made that his primary occupation in a variety of workplaces, including Firestone Tires, the Atomic Energy Commission, Auto Car and Foundry and Varian Electronics. While working in Palo Alto, Calif., he met Kathleen Wyatt. They married Feb. 23, 1963, in Hawthorne, Nev. He worked as a truck owner and operator, driving on the Alcan Highway when it first opened for North American Van Lines and for Gerber's Childrenswear, from which he retired in 1981. He moved to Rogue River in 1984 from Tempe, Ariz. Houser loved traveling. He visited all the states except North Dakota. He also traveled in Canada, Australia, and Tahiti. His other interests were gardening, reading, nature programs on TV and snorkeling. In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Charles T. Houser of Georgetown, Texas, and Gerald Houser of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Carolyn Rodriguez of Albuquerque, N.M.; four stepsons, Larry Sharboneau of Blaine, Wash., Richard Sharboneau of Egene, Michael Sharboneau of Oregon, Ill., and Thomas Sharboneau of Sonora, Calif.; a step-daughter, Christine Sharboneau of Fremont, Calif.; a brother, Ray D. Houser of Casa Grande, Ariz.; a sister, Nancy Kieffer of Denver, Pa.; nine grandchildren, seven stepgrandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews."
